Cleaner Air Solutions Ltd, a small business based in Durham, plans to increase sales to £30 million in the next three years

This company was founded by Gary Bowden in 2000 and has already seen its turnover reach £10 million. He plans to expand his workforce of 24 staff and push sales up to £30 million in the next three years.

Cleaner Air Solutions markets and instals wind turbine generators and solar technology in the UK and overseas, while its sister company CLS Dual Fuel supplies alternative fuel systems for motor vehicles, such as engines adapted to use liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

Gary Bowden, 36, told The Journal: “All of our core products and services achieve reductions in carbon emissions with every customer who walks through the door.”

They supply systems for homes, factories, schools, colleges and hospitals and help customers to secure the grants that can be available. For domestic properties the grant can be up to 50 per cent of the total cost.

The turnover of Cleaner Air Solutions has jumped from £4m to £10m over the last two years and it is expected to reach £20m next year.

The company’s aim is for solar panels to be taken for granted on homes and business premises, in the same way that people now take for granted seeing a satellite TV dish.

Both his companies have recently moved to new £1m premises in Durham to keep pace with their rapid expansion. The workforce may reach 60-strong by the end of 2009.
