Restaurant Design Associates, a family-run design company in the hospitality industry, is celebrating after winning a contract with the Ministry of Defence.
Restaurant Design Associates Ltd (RDA) was set up in South Tyneside by Roy and Judith Addyman in 2007 and the firm has just secured the contract to install a new coffee bar at the MoD’s headquarters in Whitehall, London.
Their company provides an interior design and build service to the catering and hospitality industries and has secured other high-profile contracts, including the upgrade of catering facilities at Leeds General Infirmary and fitting out several of Costa Coffee’s outlets in the South East, Derby and Leeds.
RDA director Judith Addyman told STCentral TV: “Fortunately we haven’t been seriously affected by the current economic issues as the majority of our clients tend to be in the public sector, particularly in health and education.
“We started out just over two years ago with five employees and this has gradually increased to eleven, so we have more than doubled in size. What is great is that we came out of year one with a healthy profit, putting us in a good position going forward and we are set double our turnover this year.”
RDA achieved a turnover of £1 million in the first year and has already invested a lot in its staff and IT systems. Its owners plan to find new offices for the company to cope with its expansion.
“When we move we are planning to stay in South Tyneside,” Judith said. “I have lived in South Tyneside all my life, this is where we have grown our business from and we have some fantastic staff based here.”
